June Blooms With Curves and Hot Summer Nights

The Curves had a fantastic time as the Guest Artists for the Hot Summerlin Nights Guest Artist Series in Summerlin. The host of this event was Grace In the Desert and a great time was had by all, especially us!
The venue was lovely, with big open windows that allowed the sun to shine through and really bring a heavenly feel to the room. Talk about earthly inspiration!
This was a unique show for us as we had no band and only our tracks. In these economic times, we are learning to be extremely resourceful. While our preference, goal and desire is to have live music at all times, the fact of the matter is that in order to bring our music to as many people as possible, we have to remain open minded. It certainly does make us stay on our toes! Stay tuned for the release date (FINALLY) of our CD! And, do your best to stay cool and curvy in these hot summer months.

April Comes and Goes! What??!!!

I can't believe it's almost May!  This month flew by and really it's no wonder. The Curves were beyond busy this month and a fabulous month we had!  I was trying to wait for the video to be finished ( editing, that is) and my husband is working like crazy on it-but it just takes time.  So, instead of waiting to write about our show, I will simply carry on and then post more at a later date.

We wrote and produced what is, without a doubt, our best show to date. We added new songs, had dresses made and made our first (real) lighting chart.  It was very exciting and a real success. Some of our new material included Jason Robert Brown's "Hear My Song", Scott Alan's "Let Love Begin" and even a comedy song, "Girl in 14G"!  Who knew the Curves can sing-dance and be funny!  I am so thrilled with our hard work and it is really paying off.  We are feeling some real momentum with our soon-to-be commercially released CD (just finishing up the licensing), new costumes and video.
In addition, this weekend, we had the privilege of singing for some our country's heros at the Veteran's Home in Boulder City.  What a sweet and loving crowd!  These are the men and women who fought for our freedom and as they sang along with us to God Bless America, there wasn't a dry eye in the house.  It really makes you feel blessed to live in the United States and proud to be an American.  Pictured with us is the lovely Angela, who booked us for this job!  Thanks, Angela for the great food and treats!
Have a very curvalicious week and enjoy this beautiful weather-it seems to be from coast to coast gorgeous!

The Curves had another fabulous day of a really fantastic week!  Today, we had the honor and pleasure to perform one of our songs (probably one of our most requested) Moonriver, with the Oh-So-Fabulous Kellie Wright!  She did her cabaret show, with some of her talented friends (pictured from top left-Cyndi Lee, Kellie Wright, Carlo Driggs-Audrei with the Curves down front).
Let me tell you friends, this lady can sing and entertain like nobody's business!  Great song choices like "Hard Hearted Hannah" and "Cry Me a River" with Kellie's bluesy, toasty warm tones were absolute hits with the audience.  Her friends performed great songs as well and all were polished and professional.  Her band was awesome with Tony Bronco on the piano, Geoff Newman on stand up bass and Barry Farley on the drums.  They really sounded great-of course, Tony Bronco is one of our faves too! It totally made us excited for our performance on April 19th! And, as always, have a super curvalicious day and a fabulous week!

CD release party!

There are lots of curves going on in these pictures!  All Dangerous!  We had the most wonderful friend, family and fan-filled day at our very first CD release party.  From here to cyber-land, we had people in and out all day to pose for pictures, leave messages on Facebook and even purchase our CD "girl talk".  We truly could not be more grateful, thankful and thrilled at the turn out of love and support.
We drank lovely Champagne and Sangria and Pink Punch (made by our Curve, Lisa-OF COURSE, it was pink!) and feasted on delicious treats, mostly made possible by the oh-so-talented Gret, who not only sings like a Broadway diva, but cooks like Martha Stewart!
If you haven't had the chance to hear some of our songs, please jump on over to our
Dangerous Curves website and take a listen!
Have a wonderful Holiday-be it the miracle of Hanukkah (today is day 3), celebrating the birth of Jesus the Savior or simply enjoying the happiness and joy of the season with friends and family near and far-the Curves wish you all the joy possible today and in the days to come.

Red hot girls at the Orleans!

Here we are at the Orleans just before we go on for the Newcomer's Holiday Luncheon!  Before I continue about Dangerous Curves, may I just tell you that the Orleans was a fantastic experience!  The casino was sparkling clean and ALL of the staff, from the Valet to the Bell Desk to the Banquet servers and supervisor were all happy, helpful and fantastic!  Congratulations to the staff of the Orleans!
We did a brand new version of our show and it is quickly becoming one of my favorite versions! No new songs yet,  but I really liked the arrangement of songs-once we have our new opener up and running (no, I am not telling yet!) this show will really fly!  The audience was super and we are so grateful for the way we are continuously received.  These ladies were loads of fun and a fantastic time was had by all.
The other completely exhilarating thing going on with Dangerous Curves is the release of our CD "girl talk"!  We received a few the morning of our gig (thanks to Gret's husband, Michael!) and we were able to sell them after the show!    Its just one fabulous thing after another with the girls Dangerous Curves!

a Sunday rehearsal-what?!

Artist Marta Wiley "ballerina bows"
Although all three of us are true believers in the Universe and all it has to offer us, still I am amazed when something completely pertinent to one of our discussions shows up unexpectedly.  For example, I am an avid follower of a blog on word press called Miyazaki Cabaret Update: DC & Beyond. One of his recent posts happens to be on self-promotion, which I enjoyed.  However, it lead me to an older post on accepting applause and bows and wow, did it really hit home.  In one of our most recent shows, my husband commented on how we spoke over the applause and didn't wait to accept it.  I told him it didn't feel that way at all!  As a performer, every moment on stage can seem like an hour, especially when you are accepting applause.  Yikes!  Its tough to simply stand there with NOTHING to do and can feel very narcissistic.  His point was that, not only did the audience not hear what we were saying, (and believe me, we worked hard on those talk spots!) they were left feeling frustrated because they were not allowed to perform THEIR job...to tell us they enjoyed the performance!  Even after this valid point was heard by all, we really didn't believe it until we viewed a piece of ourselves on video. OH. THAT.  MMMMM.    Which leads us to the title of this post.  Tomorrow, we are rehearsing for a gig in December at the Orleans.  But first, we are going to view the show together in its entirety. We are not going to judge ourselves on our singing or talking or appearance.  We are going to watch and learn and grow.  Thus, a Sunday rehearsal.

P.S. Lisa has a fantastic blog on word press-here's the link! Lisa's blog

Our CD is almost here!

OK!  I just can't help it!  I had to share this with you!  Isn't it stunning!!  Lisa put this together and although the final order of songs is not yet decided, the layout is set!  We are beyond excited for the release of the very first Dangerous Curves CD!  What an undertaking that is-let me tell you!  First the recording process was fun-exciting-difficult-introspective and things I never imagined.  What an amazing learning experience as a performer.  For me, the thing I wanted most to do was make the recording feel like it was a live performance-but with the perfect, clean, clear sounds of recording.

Now, we are working on the finalization of things-mixing and mastering and putting together the hard copy stuff-like the example above!  Lisa did such a great job on that and wait 'till you see the rest!  Its breathtaking!  I feel so lucky to be a part of this with these amazing girls!  We decided to feature ourselves a bit with some solo work and hon-est-ly!  Gret should be on Broadway with her rendition of "Children Will Listen", and don't listen to Lisa's haunting version of "By The Way" while you are driving cuz the tears are gonna flow!  I was fortunate enough to do an original song written by Rob Hyatt and Jerry Jones, I hope you love it as much as I love singing it!
Gotta run friends, rehearsal tomorrow morning!

Sunday afternoon!

Sunday was a fantastic day of adultland!  What is adultland, you may ask?  Oh, you don't have kids, do you?!  Adultland is any time you are out of the house, without a stroller and diapers in hand, dressed in cute clothes and go to a restaurant without a children's menu!  Many thousand's of thank yous to my sister, Lori, who watched the baby while Den and I were out! Love you! :-)

The girls, myself, my husband and one of our dearest and most talented friend (Stu Daylida) went to the Flamingo Library Theatre to watch Tina Walsh and friends perform a show of the hits of Burt Baccarach.  We went not only to meet Tom Gallagher and John Merren, who run the Sunday afternoon events, also know as the Brown Bag theatre, but also to check out the stage and lights, etc, because we are performing there on April 29th!  AAAGH!  This is a real stage,  with a real proscenium and follow spots and everything!
Tina's show was quite interesting, with my personal favorite moment sung by Kristin Hertzenberg, "Kristine" of "Phantom, the Las Vegas Spectacular" singing "I Say a Little Prayer for You".  It was truly blissful and may I say-"girl can saaa-iiiing!"  She was quite stunning, and an all around Dangerous Curves' favorite.  I also want to mention Philip Fortenberry, of the Jersey Boys.  He was the pianist and musical director for Tina.  I must tell you that his skills on the piano are absolutely amazing.  He was given a solo moment in the show that was over far too quickly.  What an amazing talent.
After the show, we went to eat a late lunch at the Bonefish Grill.  Once again, we have picked a yummy dining experience!  They have a gluten free menu for Lisa, a great wine list and the food is absolutely yummy!  We enjoyed appetizers, salads, wine and our main courses ranged from fish to filet.  Our server, Tracie, was adorable and took great care of us!  All in all a fantastic afternoon of songs, learning, friendship and great food.  You know, adultland!

love the Friday morning meetings with my iPhone!

Friends of the curves, I hope you are having a super curvy weekend filled with fun and frolic and prosperity!  How was that for telling the Universe what you want!  In any case, just to keep you fully informed of the Curves doings, we have implemented a Friday morning meeting via our cell phones.  We decided to do this when we realized that half of our rehearsal time was taken up discussing the "business" of Dangerous Curves, i.e., what are we wearing for the next gig, who paid for what, new song discussions, web updates, well, you get the idea.  So, Lisa came up with the Friday morning meeting via cellphone so we can still be in pajamas if necessary!  This is where my IPhone has become even more invaluable than ever!

Truth be told, I have loved my IPhone from the second I held her.  Sleek, yet sturdy, beautiful in appearance and tons of cool stuff.  Mmmm, a lot like many of the fabulous women I know!  Now, with the addition of the Apps Store, I no longer miss my Palm Pilot. Everything I could do with my Pilot has been upgraded with the IPhone and even things I didn't know I couldn't live without (texting-I ADORE texting!, weather, maps, Evernote, ambiance) are right there at my finger tips!  Now, how does all this relate to Friday morning meetings with Dangerous Curves, you may ask?  Well, simply touch the phone icon and call your first person or they may call you.  Then after some nice pleasantries, touch the add call icon, your first caller is put on hold-tap your next contact-nice pleasantries-then the onscreen menu changes to Merge Calls (replacing add and swap) touch that and voila!  All exchanging pleasantries, drinking coffee, in PJ's (or whatever) mapping out our next big curvaceous adventure!  I truly love all my apple stuff (I am writing and sharing this with you from my lovely Imac) as I believe it helps my creativity to shine.  And, if it helps Dangerous Curves further themselves down the curvy road to success...I'm in! Enjoy your weekend, fellow curves!  Check us out on myspace, facebook and of course at dangerouscurveslasvegas.com

the show at Anthem New Song

I dreamed of this moment in the throes of anxiety while getting the show ready. How good it will feel when this is over-how did we do-did I remember my words-on and on and on the dreaming went.  So, here I am, relaxing on a Sunday evening with Law and Order in the back round and the baby sleeping and a nice glass of champagne on the table next to me-writing this blog for you!

And, how did it go, you may ask?  Well, I think it went VERY well!  Yes, there were a few baubled notes, a few forgotten words, a few talk spots that need to be tightened.  Yes, all these facts are true.  Also true was the electric energy in the house, the moments of true harmonic bliss, three girls absolutely singing in perfect togetherness.  Moments of truth, told so eloquently by each one of the curves, sharing with the audience a moment of their private lives.  Sometimes poignant, sometimes funny, always genuine.  The audience loved it!  A fantastic show is beginning to emerge.  Look out!  The curves are at again and this time...there is NOTHING to stop us!  P.S. We also want to say a big thank you to those who bought a CD and for those who donated to the Alliance for Lupus Research.  Seriously, you are a yummylicious person and we adore you!  Now, did you really think I could make it through an entire post without a Karen vokabulary word?!! :-)

Well, today is show day, but I thought I would write to you about our rehearsal yesterday.  Great and rough, as these things go.  Always wishing for more time until the show and excited anticipation for performing for an audience.  And, as always, with these girls-amazement at their beautiful voices and fantastic performances.  Think of us tonite and send us happy/peppy/positive thoughts and I will blog about the show this  weekend!

Girl talkin'-girls singin'!

Hello friends and fans alike! The Girls are at it again and this time they are in full swing! We have been in the studio working hard on our CD due to be released in early October. In addition, we have been in heavy rehearsals adding more great songs to our shows, for you!
The studio time with Rob Hyatt has been such a fantastic learning experience! Every single sound-consonants-breath-vocal choice is absolutely and completely highlighted. It is daunting. It is amazing. It is terrifying. I don't know how all you studio people do it without making yourself crazy. Luckily, Rob is an amazing musician and so helpful with suggestions on notes and dynamics, we just couldn't do it without him. Lisa is amazing with her ear and able to find and create harmonies on a dime. Gret hears somethings once and is ready to go. And, of course, I am happy and proud to say, our blend is becoming a true work of art. :-)
As you can see its late and time for beauty sleep, but I just couldn't wait to share some of our exciting moments with you.
Have a super curvy day!
Karen-the alto curve
